Halo Sphere
By Steve Jansen
t's fitting that beat manipulator Brian Varga performs under the pseudonym Halo. Why, you ask? Because the CityDeep Music label founder, producer, and house DJ envelopes eardrums with an aural radiance reminiscent of '80s underground house spiked with a spot of London drum 'n' bass. Born in Chicago, Halo took advantage of the Windy City's deep reservoir of underground house loft parties, featuring luminaries such as Gene Hunt, Frankie Knuckles, and Boo Williams, then weaved his own signature style that he dubs "mature music for the deeply minded." Marinate your soul to remixes of "This Love" and "Change," and there shouldn't be any question that the needle -- and the club -- is at Halo's disposal when he takes to the decks.
