An event so smooth, it's never on the rocks

"We exist for those who seek more in life than the force fed contrived mainstream," StraightNoChaser DJ Joe DiPadova said. We exist for those who find personal and spiritual power in music."
"We exist to provide our crowd with real release, rather than bad music, lame pickups and watered down drinks. We exist to provide something deeply different, and yet completely accessable."
StraightNoChaser is a weekly show featuring out-of-the-mainstream artists Fridays at The Loft - under Gordon Biersch on Mill Avenue. Sets of live music follow a free wine tasting, which runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Varius musicians perform from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
Featured on Friday, January 20, are visual artists Brez and Banding Hendrix, followed by performances by drummer Adam Clark, turntable musician Raul Yanez, jam band Baraka, producer and DJs Santos and Joe DiPadova.
Cover for ages 21 and older is free before 8 p.m. and $5 after. Format for a StraightNoChaser night is typically jazz from 6 to 8 p.m., funk or funky jazz from 8 to 10 p.m. and DJs from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
DiPadova described Clark as "one of the most talented drummers in the state." Yanez is credited with co-composing "Concerto for Turntable" - a symphony pairing a turntable with traditional instruments featuring Scottsdale virtuoso DJ Radar. Baraka is a jam band that performs funk music. Santos is a DJ signed to Puerto Rican label Yoruba Records.
